  1. WinJPEG v.2.7 is a shareware image viewer with image processing and
  2. conversion capabilities for Microsoft Windows 3.x.  It has the
  3. following features:

  39. There are three versions of WinJPEG: a 386+ version for 386's or better,
  40. a 386 version for 386's or better, and a 286 one for 286's or better. 
  41. The shareware version is a fully functional 386 version.  The 386+
  42. version is almost twice as fast as the shareware version in decoding
  43. JPEG's without sacrificing image quality, and it can be obtained by
  44. registering WinJPEG.

  60. DISTRIBUTION CONDITIONS
  61. You are free to distribute this shareware version of WinJPEG as long as the
  62. following conditions are met:
  63.   1) The distributed archive must contain ONLY the files listed above.
  64.   2) The contents of this archive are NOT MODIFIED in any way.
  65.   3) This version is not to be sold.  However, a reasonable disk copying fee
  66.      is permitted.

  71. INSTALLATION NOTES
  72. If you associate a file extension with WinJPEG, you can double click on
  73. a file with that extension in File Manager and WinJPEG will
  74. automatically display that file.  There are two ways to associate an
  75. extension with WinJPEG.  The easiest way is to run File Manager, to
  76. click on a file with the desired extension, and to select the Associate
  77. command from the File Menu.  Then type "winjpeg.exe" with the
  78. appropriate path (e.g. c:\winjpeg\winjpeg.exe).  The other way is to
  79. modify the Extensions section of the "win.ini" file in your Windows
  80. directory.  Your "win.ini" may look like this after you modify it:

  91. Note that you don't have to use the suggested extensions (e.g. you can use
  92. .jpe instead of .jpg); WinJPEG will automatically detect the file format.

  94. If you are using Windows 3.0, you must copy "commdlg.dll" and
  95. "shell.dll" to your Windows system directory(e.g. C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM).

  97. If WinJPEG GPF's, we recommend that you restart Windows before
  98. running WinJPEG again.

  101. HOW TO REGISTER
  102. If you use WinJPEG for more than 14 days, you are expected to register
  103. WinJPEG.  When you register, you will receive the latest 286 and 386
  104. versions of WinJPEG, a user manual, and a collection of JPEG images (we
  105. will put as many as we can fit on 1 1.44M 3 1/2" floppy or on 4 360k 5
  106. 1/4" floppies).  Also, the registered version does not have the
  107. reminder-to-register screen at the start.
  108.  
  109. The registration fee is $25.  Massachusetts residents, add 5% sales tax
  110. to the registration fee.  US residents, add $4 for shipping and 
  111. handling; non-US residents, add $8 for shipping and handling.  If you
  112. want WinJPEG e-mailed to your account instead of having it physically
  113. mailed to you, there is no extra shipping charge.  The above prices
  114. represent a cash discount; if you are paying with a Visa or MasterCard,
  115. add 10% to this subtotal.  The 10% is the processing fee that we get
  116. charged for credit card transactions.

  118. Registered users of WinJPEG can purchase the latest version for $5. 
  119. Shipping and handling fees described above apply to these updates as
  120. well.  Updates are available when you see a new shareware version.

  122. For e-mail registrations, you need to use a program called "uudecode" to
  123. decode the uuencoded file that we e-mail to you.  For your information,
  124. a uuencoded file is a binary file that is converted to text by a program
  125. called "uuencode."  If your mail system rejects large messages, we will
  126. split the uuencoded file into smaller parts before mailing the parts to
  127. you, and you will need to edit the messages with a text editor before
  128. you can decode them.  Compuserve, America Online, and Prodigy, for
  129. example, do not permit large e-mail messages.   Also, the uuencoded file
  130. is rather large; it's approximately 1 MB for WinJPEG.  Compuserve users
  131. may find it less expensive to receive WinJPEG via U.S. Mail.

  133. Registrations with the incorrect fee or with non-US currency will be
  134. returned.  Foreign registrations must send US currency, a Postal Money
  135. Order, or a check drawn from a US bank.
